This Page is Dedicated to GTBBL Basketball Players that have Distinguished themselves both Academically and Athletically. Through their Achievements they have set an example for all the players that follow them, of what can be Accomplished through Hard Work, and Dedication in the pursuit of Excellence.

Paul Sarpong

        GTBBL Student/Athlete Paul Sarpong was chosen by the National Young Leaders Conference to attend Barack Obama’s Presidential Inauguration Ceremonies in Washington DC.  Paul, is a student at Timber Creek High School and was selected by the National Young Leaders Conference for his leadership qualities and academic achievements.  Paul also plays in the Senior Division in the Gloucester Township Boys Basketball League  .
      During Paul’s five day visit to Washington, he had the opportunity to attend the Festivities at the Lincoln Memorial, the Inaugural Ball, and the Inauguration ceremony in front of the Capitol Building.
     We are extremely proud of Paul and his achievements and would like to congratulate him and his parents for earning the opportunity to be a part of this timeless moment in American history.  Paul received a special Player Recognition Award by GTBBL Senior Division Coordinator Jim Brechka and GTBBL President Rich Brattelli.

        

 

Anthony Scafidi

        Anthony Scafidi played in the Gloucester Township Boys Basketball League for 11 years and was the 2006 Junior Division All-star Game MVP.  In addition to playing in the GTBBL Basketball Program, Anthony was also a key contributor to the Highland High School basketball team, which qualified for the state tournament in South Jersey Group 3 as a 10th seed.  Anthony, a 6-4 senior guard/forward, was the first sub off the bench for the Tartans and coach Andy Thies. Here is a list of some of this young man's Honors and Achievments.

  • Ranked #1 in the Class of 2009
  • Received The Rensselaer Medal ($60,000 scholarship over 4 years)
  • Chosen for and attended American Legion Jersey Boys State (June 2008)
  • Chosen for and attended the Renaissance National Conference in 2006 and 2007
  • Member of The National Society of High School Scholars
  • National Honor Society (Also the Math, French, Science and History Honor Societies)
  • Honored by The National Consortium for Academics and Sports for “achieving excellence in academics and athletics, while making significant contributions to the community.” (All 4 years)
  • Recognized by The School Board for straight A’s in all four marking periods Sophomore Year
  • Certificate of Invitation to The Lead America Conference in 2007
  • Completed “The 30 Hour Famine” with Highland’s Bible Study Club (Sophomore Year)

 Chris Brattelli

        Chris Brattelli played in the Gloucester Township Boys Basketball League for 11 years. He also played basketball for the Indians at C.W. Lewis Middle School. In High School Chris played for the Tartans at Highland Regional High School and was a member of the team that went on to win the Group 4 State Championship in 1999.  In addition to basketball Chris was a member of the Highland Track & Field Team as a high jumper. In his senior year he went on to become the Group 4 State High Jump Champion and later competed in the Penn Relays.

        Chris was recruited out of High School by the University of the Sciences and received a full Athletic Scholarship. He became the starting Center for all four of his years for the Devils.  During his College Basketball Career he became the third highest  scorer for his team reaching more than a thousand points in his junior year and was the Devils top re-bounder.  Chris graduated in 2005 with a degree in Pharmaceutical Marketing.

          EACH YEAR THE NOMINEES FOR THE GTBBL SPORTSMANSHIP PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD ARE  SELECTED BY THE COACHING STAFF FROM EACH OF THE LEAGUE'S FOUR COMPETITION DIVISIONS. THESE PLAYERS ARE CHOSEN FOR THEIR SPORTSMANSHIP, LEADERSHIP, AND DEDICATION.  THE AWARD WINNER FROM EACH DIVISION IS THE CHOSEN FROM A LOTTERY ALL THE  NOMINEES TO REPRESENT THERE DIVISION AS SPORTSMANSHIP PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
